The Vermont Historical Society protects the privacy of website visitors. You do not need to register to view or use materials, search the site or access files. We do not collect personal information about you unless you chose to give us personal information. If you give us personal information (such as your name or email address), we will only use the information to:

  • Respond to your question or request for information.
  • To invite you to register for our e-newsletter(s) or mailing list.
  • To contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.

Your email address or other information will never be shared with third parties. If you would like to be removed from our database, please submit your request to education@vermonthistory.org.

This website collects some anonymous information when you visit pages. We do not collect information that can identify you or any individual personally. For example, we use Google Analytics to know how many people visit the site, how long they stay on the site, if they use search engines to find the site, and which pages are viewed most often. We use the information we collect to measure our site and to help us make our site better.

The Vermont History Explorer website will not request any information from a person younger than age 13, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), and will not knowingly accept personally identifiable information from a child younger than age 13, which includes user requests submitted via the contact form.
