The American Revolutionary era changed North America and the world in big ways. Over the past 250 years, we’ve often tried to live up to the high ideals in our founding documents. As we get ready for the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence in 2026, we will think about our nation's history. This is a time for Americans to learn about our past, celebrate our successes in freedom and bravery, and think about the times we’ve faced unfairness, racism, and violence. All In Vermont: put YOUR history on the map

Calling all students and educators! Uncover the enduring history that makes YOUR home unique through this inquiry-based project. Share your research on an interactive map in 2026 to demonstrate Vermont's rich history and continued evolution since the revolution! More coming soon. Funding for this project came from a 2025 Special Programs Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership.

Vermont History Day

Participate in Vermont History Day! It's a history competition in which students in grades 5 - 12 choose a topic and dive deeply into the past by conducting extensive research in libraries, archives, and museums. Students present their conclusions and evidence through papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, or websites. Student research is evaluated by historians and educators, and those who perform best in their category have tht opportunity to go to National History Day in Washington D.C.
